Research and Development Center

Huber Engineering Woods – Commerce, GA

 

Through many years in working in the Kaolin Industry with Huber, now known as Kamin, DCC was asked to help design and build a Research and Development Center for their sister company, Huber Engineered Woods located in Commerce, GA. The design used Old Time Construction methods. It was built with all wood, no metal studs. We teamed with Bensonwoods from the New England area. The only metal products used were all threads holding important connections between elevation changes in the building. All other connections were made by wood pegs. The owner wanted a unique building with focus of wood construction. We used the owners products during certain aspects of construction where it was applicable.  The focal point is an actual debark tree truck that is part of the structural in the main lobby. It was a LEED project designed for Gold Certification.
