Empowerment in action

We give every team member the authority to stop work. If something isn’t safe, they can pause the job—no questions asked. Subcontractors are also required to maintain the same commitment to a safe work environment.

Comprehensive Safety Program

DCC’s safety program is built on three key pillars:

Proactive Training: Every team member is required to complete essential safety training to ensure a secure work environment on site. Key safety training requirements include:

  • 24 hours of safety training, including OSHA certification, first aid, and equipment operation
  • Annual MSHA training
  • Supervision by OSHA 30-certified managers
  • In-house training led by certified MSHA and OSHA trainers
  • Support from three field safety managers
  • Regular refresher sessions to maintain safety awareness

Site-Specific Safety Plans: Each project starts with a customized safety plan that addresses the project’s unique challenges and potential hazards. These plans are developed collaboratively with project managers, safety officers, and workers to ensure comprehensive coverage and buy-in from all stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement: The safety team regularly reviews incidents, near-misses, and industry best practices to continually enhance safety protocols. We maintain a drug-free workplace through pre-employment, random, and post-incident testing, with immediate removal from the job—no exceptions—for anyone found under the influence. This zero-tolerance approach to safety lapses reaffirms our commitment to leading the way in construction safety.

Our commitment to safety is reflected in our exceptional Experience Modification Rate (EMR) of 0.66. This rating, significantly below the industry average of 1.0, demonstrates DCC’s superior safety performance and effective risk management practices.

The EMR of 0.66 translates to substantial benefits for the company and its clients. For DCC, it reduces workers’ compensation insurance premiums, enabling more competitive pricing. This rating assures clients that they’re partnering with a contractor who prioritizes safety, potentially reducing risks and associated costs. This impressive EMR is a testament to DCC’s comprehensive safety program, ongoing training initiatives, and the collective effort of every team member to maintain a safe work environment.
